Harvest Moon Giveaway

It felt time for another giveaway :) So this autumn, I'm giving away a few Accessorize Diamond Sparkle Lipglosses.

My inspiration for the giveaway is the September moon also known as the Harvest Moon which will be full this year on September 29th. The Harvest Moon is the moon closest to the autumnal equinox and is (as the name implies) associated with the harvest season. Due to the positions of the earth and the moon, the moon rises early around the equinox, supposedly assisting the farmers by giving them light after the sun has set.

The Harvest Moon is also celebrated in many Asian cultures - this time of year features Autumn moon festivals. The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated by Chinese cultures by indulging in mooncakes (a type of heavy pastry), matchmaking, lighting lanterns, and dragon dances. The Chinese Goddess Chang'e is also central to this celebration. Chang'e lives on the moon along with a hare (rabbit) and together they pound medicine, rice cakes, or mochi (depending on the legend). 

Chang'e gives her worshippers beauty. If she would like to bless me with some beauty, I know I'd be grateful :)

White Day Giveaway!

So Valentine's Day has gone by and barely a peep out of me! But I will pipe up to tell you about White Day and my White Day giveaway! 

For those of you who haven't heard of White Day, it's related to Valentine's Day and falls on the 14th of March, one month after V-day. It can be observed in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and China and is a day for women to receive back some for what they've done on Valentine's Day. 

Huh?

Let's go back to Valentine's Day! 

In Japan, Valentine's Day is not celebrated the same as it is in the US or UK or maybe where you are. It's a day for women to give chocolate to men only. That's it! That's right, men get spoiled with chocolate and women do all the hard work. 

There's several types of chocolates given, but they are generally of the milk or dark varieties of chocolate. It's common to give 'giri choco' or 'obligation chocolate' to male friends and coworkers on Vday and is not sign of any romantic interest. While 'honmei choco' or 'real feelings chocolate' will be given to a man that a woman has romantic feelings for. The more homemade the honmei choco the better. 

White Day was created for men who received chocolate on Valentine's Day to return the favour to women. Because the traditional gift was white chocolate, the day is called White Day, but it can be common to give the women any manner of gifts, although it's often wrapped in white. 

So I imagine you're probably not expecting a White Day gift, so I wanted to give you one! And it's all the way from Japan with love.

Maybelline Shine Sensational Lipgloss Mad About Melon Review and Giveaway

I'm in the US and it's so dry here it's unreal. Okay, it's not that dry, but my lips are really noticing and begging for some moisture. I hit the local drug store and picked up a few lip products to try. One of them was Maybelline's Shine Sensational Lipgloss which I hadn't heard of before. I randomly picked out no. 70 Mad About Melon based soley on the colour - I wasn't sure if they tasted like the name or not.

I'm pretty happy with my purchase. My lips feel much better. Ah, moisture! I like the colour as well. Light colour that's barely noticeable on the lips, but tonnes of shine and sparkle. And, these do taste/smell. So while I'm not actually mad about melon myself, I like melon, but I don't really wanna taste it all the time, it is a neat idea. I'd especially recommend it if you like flavoured glosses. I got this for just under $6, but apparently Target has it for as little as $4. If I can find it for $4, I may be tempted to get a few more. I'm not massive on flavoured glosses, but all in all, I'd give another a try especially with names like: Minty Sheer, Cherry Bloom, Freshly Sliced, Glamourous Guava, Mad About Melon, Crazy for Caramel, Cocoa Fever, Berry Dazzle, Cranberry Crave, Crushed Candy, Peach Sorbet, Treat Me Sweet, Cherry Kiss, Watermelon Punch, Berry Bella, Sweet Indulgence, Sparkling Grape, and Tempting Toffee.
