Brand: Clairol

Product: Colour Booster

What is it? An in-shower conditioner to prevent brassy tones in blonde hair

Clairol's Colour Booster ^TM is a conditioner for cool blonde coloured hair to help keep it glossy and brassy-free. I wanted to try this as part of my seemingly never ending search for the perfect conditioner. In fact, I was hoping that it might be a replacement for my much loved and coveted, but now no longer available, Clairol Nice 'N Easy CC Plus Color Seal Conditioner, Brilliant Blondes.(image below) Why they stopped making this, I don't know, but it was cheap and AMAZING.

So I had high expectations going into this.

Although Colour Booster seems primarily concerned with preventing brassiness, I really bought this hoping it would make my hair soft and glossy like the the Color Seal Conditioner. I only needed that once a week and my hair was happy, so happy - hard water, soft water, you name it.

Unlike the Color Seal Conditioner which was white, this is a dark purple colour as you'd probably not be surprised.

The directions: Apply to clean, damp hair and distribute evenly. Leave for 3-5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Use after every wash, also for daily use.

The results?

It's worth noting my hair type and water situation. My hair is very fine
and thin, but I have lots of it. I'm also currently in hard water land.
(I tried hooking up a softener to my shower head, but it's not really
made much difference). In soft water, I don't have any issues with
shampoo and conditioners, but in hard water, I have so many hair woes.
Many shampoos and conditioners are too heavy and leave my hair feeling
greasy, and my hair isn't as shiny as it is in soft water.

Well, I don't know. Maybe my hair isn't brassy, or at least isn't any more brassy. So I can give Clairol that much. As for glossy and soft? Well, it's another dud for me. I wouldn't say it's a bad conditioner, but it just didn't deliver the soft silkiness I was hoping for. In fact, it didn't really make my hair nicer, or much worse. I'd have to say, personally, I won't be buying this again, but it's not a bad product. Just nothing in it for me.

Please Clairol, bring back the Nice 'N Easy CC Plus Color Seal Conditioner! Ah, that stuff was amazing.

It prompted me to review a shampoo that I have been using for build up.

On to the review.

Brand: Neutrogena

Product: Neutrogena Shampoo. Anti-residue formula

What is it? A shampoo to remove build up on hair

The directions: Wet hair thoroughly. Massage shampoo into hair, lather and rinse well. Repeat if necessary.

The results?

It's worth noting my hair type and water situation. My hair is very fine and thin, but I have lots of it. I'm also currently in hard water land. (I tried hooking up a softener to my shower head, but it's not really made much difference). In soft water, I don't have any issues with shampoo and conditioners, but in hard water, I have so many hair woes. Many shampoos and conditioners are too heavy and leave my hair feeling greasy, and my hair isn't as shiny as it is in soft water.

With that said, I find I only need this shampoo in hard water areas. I don't use products on my hair generally, so I really find the only build-up I have is from shampoos and conditioners, or hard water (I guess?!).

This one is a keeper. I'm happy with this shampoo. My hair feels light and clean and shiny after using - in hard water. I have actually been using this shampoo for years, and I use it only occasionally, so I find the little bottle lasts me ages.
In case you haven't heard of them, they are basically period underwear, i.e. you can wear them with tampons and not worry about leaks or even wear them alone. Some pairs can hold up to two tampons worth.

I had been thinking about trying them for awhile before I caved. They are pretty expensive (about $30USD per pair). I started with 3 pairs around Christmas 2017 and well, I haven't looked back! I now have about 10 pairs.

I mostly have the hip huggers, which are my favourites, but I also have a couple of the cotton bikinis which I also like. I have not tried the thongs or the sports shorts.

What are they and how do they work?

Basically they are underpants that can absorb your period, almost like pads, and are reusable. They absorb the liquid leaving you not feeling like you're sitting in your,,, well, period discharge, and won't leak out. Thinx recommend you use them with a tampon if you have heavy flow to catch leaks, or for lighter flow days you can wear them alone. (I wear them, no pads or tampons for my entire period without issue! You can tell when they are starting to feel full.)

You just pre-rinse them in cold water when you stop wearing them and then wash them on a gentle cycle when you do your laundry. They can be washed with other items - just hold the fabric softener and make sure to let them air dry.

Pros

Convenient - no need to carry pads or tampons if you don't have a heavy flow. This is amazing when you're going on a night out and don't have to use precious handbag space for bulky pads!

No leaks - As long as you change the pants often enough (They can leak if they get too full, but I haven't had that problem. I have a medium flow I'd guess, and I find that during heavy rotation, I might change 3 times a day, but that's more down my choice, when I've been too busy or unable to change, I've found no problems wearing one pair all day. I often put on a fresh pair each night though.

Comfort - Maybe girls who wear tampons will argue with me, but I usually wear pads, which can rub and irritate and these are just like wearing normal underpants, so I find no rubbing or irritation down there. Especially when riding a bike, that's a win for me!

No more ruining good underpants! (Or let's be honest, keeping old skanky or stained underpants for period days). And no more worrying about spotting. When it's close to my period, I just start wearing these and relax. I guess this is kinda an overlap with 'no leaks' but I feel it's worth it's own pro!

Better for the environment - No more throwing out all those disposable feminine products. I have been using pads for years, so much less bulk going in the rubbish.

Cons

Expensive - A pair of these babies aren't cheap and cost in the region of $30 USD. This becomes a bit more affordable if your flow is light enough to use these as a replacement and they last a year or longer, then you may find that you break even or you save money.

Heavier than regular underwear. Yes, they are a bit bulkier than your usual undies, but honestly, it's not that much heavier - I do not feel like I am wearing a diaper/nappy!

Drying time - Outside of the US, we are used to letting things air dry rather than always using a dryer / tumble dryer, and these underpants require air drying. When I'm in the US (usually a place with air con or low humidity) these guys dry overnight, but here in the always damp UK, especially the winter, these can take up to 2 days to air dry. This is actually the reason I have so many pairs now. If they don't dry fast enough, it's hard to rotate them. Also you have to be able to wash them quickly to reuse them on the same cycle (if you only had 3 pairs, which I discovered quickly).

Overall

I've been wearing Thinx for almost 2 years now. I literally use just Thinx when it's my period. I still have some pads I bought before I had tried Thinx and I keep them around for when I haven't had a chance to do my laundry, or whatever. I mean, I'm not going throw them away, but honestly I probably don't need them anymore! I really would recommend these to anyone with a period. They are life-changing!
Perfect hair Day(R) Triple detox shampooI got a sample of this from Sephora with points and I thought I'd give it a try. When I saw it was a detox shampoo, it sounded appealing because I have issues with build up on my hair when I'm in hard water areas (which sadly is often now!)

I have to admit, I've never heard of either the brand Living proof. or the product.

Side note:

I also have very fine, but lots of, highlighted blonde hair and I currently live in a very hard water area. I do have a softener on my shower head, but I find it only makes a minimal difference. I have issues with build-up on my hair especially in hard water areas - I don't use any styling products. This is just from shampoo and conditioner, and I guess the water. ugh. I've found my hair less fussy in soft water areas. I can use a variety of shampoos and conditioners in soft water areas, but in hard water, many of the same shampoos and conditioners deposit too much gunk on my hair leaving it feeling heavy, sticky, and dull dull dull.

My first thoughts were 'um, is this going to leave colour on my light blonde highlights?'

I went ahead anyway. Wet, lathered, waited and rinsed. Then used one of my lightest conditioners.

My results?

Well, before drying my hair, I was not convinced. Sometimes you can't tell when your hair is still wet, but I can tell if my hair is going to be a tangley mess to deal with, and it didn't feel smooth and happy like my hair does after what I consider to be a good shampoo and conditioning experience that usually then dries to a glossy and soft, not-weighted down finish.

Upon drying my hair, my suspicions were confirmed. My hair felt heavy and there was a bit of dull tinge to my locks, especially the lightest bleached strands. (For those with light blonde hair or highlights, it was a bit like when you use the purple shampoo/conditioners a bit too often, only instead of a bit purple, it was a bit grey). I caution to say this was only slightly noticeable.

Overall, I wasn't happy with this product at all. I'm glad I could try it without cost, but I think it's safe to say I won't be spending any money on this product in future. In fact, I'm actually not finishing this sample bottle. It didn't seem to detox my hair of anything, it deposited a bit a colour (which did wash out in the next shampoo), and it left my hair feeling heavy and what I describe as 'dirty' - to be fair, with fine hair I find many shampoos leave too much behind. I wouldn't recommend this if you have fine hair, or very light blonde hair. So to me, it didn't deliver - my hair felt heavier and grosser than before I had washed it. I'm not sure what the triple element of the detox in the title of the product was referring to, but given the poor result, I don't even care to look on their website for more info. Sorry!

However someone with darker and thicker hair types may find different results. Also if you have soft water rather than hard. As always, hair products really do need to be tailored to your hair type. Any quality hairdresser will tell you that, yet so many brands of shampoo/conditioner trade on the premise that 'hair is hair' as if they are all the same!

Isoldehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10371909428792605472noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6097895079691785564.post-13080792054877368872015-02-24T20:21:00.000+00:002015-02-24T20:21:31.516+00:00Clearing out the clutter: my two rulesIt's still the darkest depths of February, and I don't know about you, but I can't wait for Spring to spring.

I find February the hardest month to get through since I moved to England. At first, it was fine, but now after many consecutive winters, February always feels like that last month before there feels like there is hope of more sunlight and warmer weather. It may be the lack of vitamin D that builds up from October or that fact that February just seems to go on for so long... and despite Valentine's day, several friend's birthdays, and it being the shortest month of the year, I really struggle through it.

One thing I've been working on for the last few years is the accumulation of sheer clutter - clutter in my closet, in my makeup drawer, etc. You name it, I hoard it.

Thankfully you won't see me on any reality TV shows for hoarders, but I struggle to live like normal folk (apparently I have an appalling number of shoes on par with celebrities rather than regular women, but that is a post for another time!)

I was suffering from 'well, it's nice and I may need it one day' syndrome. Actually I still suffer a bit from this, but after hoarding clothes in sizes from UK8-14 since my weight kept fluctuating, I finally bit the bullet and started seriously purging my clothes as I started to lose weight and fit into those 10s and 8s.

Now, you can read plenty of lists on the internet that advise you how you should sort your clothes and what to get rid of. I'm sure if you're interested in de-cluttering or clearing out, you've already done that so I won't repeat those strategies here.

The hard part is when you have some crazy emotional attachment to stuff. That's when you look at an item and think about the good times you had while wearing it, or think about the good times you may still have while wearing it... while conveniently forgetting the fact that you've literally had it for 15 years and every time you try to wear it, you try it on, and decide it's just not right.

So I have now implemented a new rule: Wear all of the things.

That's right, I will wear all the things I own. Okay, maybe not immediately, and some things will be needed less often than others... ball gowns, big winter coats, or swimsuits, however the rule is so simple and useful. If I need a jumper, and I have a jumper I haven't worn in a while: pull it out. Put it on. If you don't want to wear it, get rid of it. There's a reason you aren't wearing it. In the most quoted lines of the last few years: Let it go!

My second rule isn't really a rule so much as reminder - Emotional attachment to people is healthy, emotional attachment to objects, especially clothing, is not.

If I get rid of that UCSB hoodie from undergrad days, it does not erase all the good times I had while I was a student. Actually, I am not wearing this hoodie and it's just taking up precious space. I will hold onto the memories and maybe take a photo if I really can't part with it (this applies more to things like presents from people or random trinkets than clothes).

When you hold on to all these things, clothing, books, whatever, emotionally, it really weighs you down. If this is your issue, once you start parting with things and realizing that not only are you okay emotionally after parting with those jeans you haven't worn in 5 years, you actually feel less stressed because you can see what you do own in your closet, easily.

Of course, I am still no where near that perfect state. But I am trying. I will continue working on it. If you are also on that path, good luck. The hardest step to take is the first, but you can do it! Good luck!
I had heard lots of great things when this came out and so was really excited to try - especially as it was free.

I meant to review this ages ago, but only have gotten around to it now!

So here it is, the foundation in 110 Ivory. It comes in a lovely glass bottle...

I took the photo with a tissue, since you'll need at least one or two while applying this foundation. Getting the liquid out of the bottle without spillage or waste was not something I could manage.

I know that this retails as a drug store foundation so perhaps I was expecting too much. Honestly, I haven't used any other drug store foundations before.

It seems odd to me to splash out on a glass bottle, but then not have a good pump or applicator. I'd rather have a plastic squeeze tube. In fact, some of my favourite premium foundations have come in the plastic squeeze tube over the years. I actually prefer this - lighter to carry for travelling and no struggling to try to pump out the last bits.

So, aside from it being a bit messy to work with, it was a decent foundation. Here's a swatch above of the colour blobbed on my arm on the left, and then rubbed in on the right.

It went on smoothly, but left my skin a bit shinier than I would have liked. I am a fan of matt foundations. I also have normal to dry skin, so bear that in mind.

It also smelled a bit chemically. Actually it kind of reminded me of playdoh. Not usually something I look for in foundation, but I guess it could be worse.
Dr Grip, one of the best mechanical pencil and ball point pens, from Pilot, Japan, have teamed up with Sanrio to bring us adorably cute pens and pencils!

If you haven't seen a Dr Grip before, they're chunky really comfortable to hold pencils and pens. They write so smoothly as well. They are also usually pretty expensive for a pen or pencil, but not ridiculously expensive.

I got these Kutsushita Nyanko and Rilakkuma Dr Grip pens from ModeS4u

and I got this Rilakkuma pen from Artbox at their store in Covent Garden

These have been retailing for 800 yen in Japan, if you're lucky enough to get them direct.

I got mine for £10.30 each from modeS4u (this includes fees and shipping, so is the price I paid in total) and £11.90 for the one from Artbox.

So recently placed an order with H&M online and wasn't impressed with the delivery.

First off, was really excited when H&M started offering online shopping as there isn't an H&M where I live.

But they wouldn't deliver to my office cos it wasn't a safe location.

I spoke to someone on the phone (it was a premium rate number btw) and she told me that H&M don't deliver to large businesses because it's not safe for customer's orders. Apparently some customers orders have gone missing after being delivered to businesses. (Personally, I think if you want it delivered to your business, you take the risk of it getting lost at said business... and I'm not sure why this would matter to H&M.... ) I explained that because I work 9-5, I can't be at home to receive a delivery, so sending it to my work is safe for me. She assured me that the courier would require a signature and I could rearrange for them to deliver during evening hours or on Saturday. Neither of which sounded very appealing to me. In theory, yes, but in reality I imagined this to be a nightmare!

Then I got the notification that my order was being shipped out. 5 days later I came home around 10pm and got in the door and had a slip from the courier. Although I hadn't signed for the parcel, the note from the courier said 'left in bush'.

UM, what?

Yeah, so I went back outside in the dark, and they put my package in the dirt buried under a bush at the front of my house. It was covered in dirt and rain. Brilliant.

I really don't want my new clothes put in the dirt. Totally unimpressed.

Based on this experience, I can honestly say I won't be shopping on H&M online again. Ridiculous.

Although, luckily, H&M opens in Oxford city centre tomorrow, the 6th March 2014, which looks much more promising!

Have you had an awful online shipping experiences? A serious one. As much as I love shopping, I am very bad at getting rid of stuff, which means stuff piles up in my place. I try to get rid of the things I'm no longer using. It helps if I think about someone else getting to use the things I'm no longer using, but still it's a process.

What helps even more is when I can get something in return for my stuff. *KERCHING*

I tried webuybooks.co.uk not too long ago to get rid of some books and DVDs that I no longer needed. (They also take CDs and games.) It's a web based service where you tell them what you have and they offer you a price for them. If you accept the offer, you can compile an order and send off your items to them. They inspect them, and transfer you the agreed payment. You can read about how it works in detail on their site.

Generally you should have £10 worth of items before you can send an order off, although sometimes they will offer you less money if you can't make it to £10 (i.e. £7 rather than £8). I assume this is due to the cost of processing orders.

I sent them 20 books and 3 DVDs and got £29 in return. It's not going to make you rich, but it's a nice little bit of spare cash. I was happy with my experience.

I found the process pretty simple and easy. The only hard part is you need to box up your items yourself, so you need to find a suitable sized box and then you need to take it to a collect plus location, which for me is difficult. There isn't one near me, or on a bus route, so I usually have to ask a friend with a car to take it for me, but this may not be a problem for most people.

Before I knew it, I'd had my money transferred into my bank account, just as promised.

Overall, I'd really recommend this service - was really great! The only downside is that you get so little for some books, but it's easier than trying to sell each one individually myself on eBay or Amazon where I may not see any returns. Isoldehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10371909428792605472noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6097895079691785564.post-60787336336179920372014-02-26T19:00:00.000+00:002014-02-26T19:00:01.228+00:00Finding the right fit in a braI have been in love with Bravissimo every since I noticed my bras weren't feeling quite right. I had been wearing a 34B for years and after putting on some extra weight thought that maybe I should have a bra fitting.

I went into Bravissimo and they told me I was a 32E! Well that was quite the surprise, but wow, how comfortable that bra felt.

Now I know how to tell what bra fits well both in band size and in cups. I don't think I was wrong all those years - I think I genuienly fit into a 34B at one point. Maybe it was a bit too large, maybe I was actually a 32C or a 30D, I don't know for certain, but now I find that I vary between a 32E, 30F, and 30FF. But most important of all - I know to try the bra on, and not trust the size on the label.

Sounds so simple, but I was missing out on that. ¬_¬;;

Anyway, I wanted to also post about Bravissimo because not only have been brilliant in sizing, but they also have amazing customer service. I have literally worn bras from there a few times and realised it wasn't right for me and they have given me a refund - no questions asked! Even when I say 'well, I've worn it a few times already...' they haven't even blinked and accepted it for a full refund or exchange. I seriously couldn't be more happy about their customer service.

If you haven't tried them yet, give them a chance. At the very worst, you can simply return your bra!

I guess I should say, the only downside to Bravissimo is that while they have a wide range of band sizes from 28 to 40, they seem to cater mainly to larger cup sizes from D to L.

Here are some of my most recent purchases - well actually bought them a few months ago. So I can honestly say they have lasted well and are truly comfortable.

Satine bra £29 This bra is so comfortable! It does run a bit small in the cup, so I'd recommend going up a cup size than your usual size (The sales woman recommended this and I'd say she was right!) (So if you usually wear 36E, you'll probably want 36F in this one).

I have the Satine bra in nude and it's gorgeous! I never realised how hard it was to find a decent nude bra until I went to an E/F/FF cup! Once you're no longer a cute A/B/C cup, it can really feel like stylish bras just don't exist - all the more so in nude (which people often call 'beige' and seem to think some be relegated to an old woman's knicker drawer).
Patsy bra, by Freya £30
I have two of these and really love it. it has some light padding, which I adore - who wants nipple show-through?! I also nabbed one of these in a pale pink from Debenham's. I hope Freya keep making this style. It's so lovely, although I do find the band stretches a bit, which is why the 30 felt a bit tight at first, now feels very comfy. I originally got a 32 band but it became far too loose on me too quickly.

Remember if you go down a bandsize but the cup size fit fine, you should go up a cup letter as you go down (i.e. I went from 32E to 30F, so only the bandsize got smaller, the cup size stayed the same even though the letter changed). Or, down a cup size if you wanna increase the bandsize (i.e. from a 32E to a 34D).

Yep, bra sizes are so confusing to the uninitiated!

On a recent stroll through Covent Garden, I dropped into one of my favourite shops - Tabio tights and socks and picked up a pair of 60 denier violet tights. So thought I'd share some beautiful violet or radiant orchid tights today!
Crew is opening 3 flagship stores in London and one on Regent Street a few weeks ago.

I had read about J. Crew's arrival in the UK in several of the usual glossy mags. Anticipation was high.

Apparently, J. Crew is best known as Michelle Obama's favourite shop. Of course, I haven't lived in the US for 8 years, so to me, I still remember J. Crew as a preppy brand that was great for the basics - jumpers and staples of the wardrobe (well, if you were middle class and need a rainbow of cashmere in your closet). I had noticed over the years that the prices seemed to go up and up and I was only ever picking up items in the sales, if at all. Oh, and I also did like their online selection of swimsuits, even if they were a bit pricey - $80 for a bikini is expensive, isn't it?

Anyway, I had mixed feelings hearing that J. Crew was coming to the UK. Would it be good news? Or would it invariably suck?

I was kinda assuming it would suck. Looking at other US companies when they come to the UK, such as Banana Republic or Abercrombie and Fitch, we've seen that the UK prices are usually a total rip off. Often, there are generally less items available in the UK branches (when you look at the UK versus US websites) or the UK just gets the old US stock. (Actually, maybe that sounds harsh, I actually really like BR in the UK... however I haven't bought anything from A&F in the UK in years and don't think I will again).

And guess, what? Yep, apparently the UK prices for J Crew are almost double the US prices. What a load of crap! It's already completely overpriced in the US, but seriously trying to sell it at double in the UK? What do you take us for? Ugh.

It's rare I agree with the Daily Mail, but they posted a story on how the new London shop (and website) were a major rip off.

From the Daily Mail: Shoppers shocked as Michelle Obama's favourite brand J Crew lands in UK... at double the price!

No thanks, J. Crew, no thanks!

But, my dissatisfaction with J. Crew in the UK isn't limited to their prices.

They posted me a catalogue to announce they were coming to the UK. It was one of the mags that tries to target both men and women in one book, by having one of those flip it over and read it the other way (sorry, that's the worst explanation for that from someone who works in publishing. I cringe at myself).

Honestly, I wasn't too impressed. It reeked of 'trying too hard' and 'misreading your audience' or maybe they're after an audience that isn't me. Funny, I used to be their audience.

Firstly, the men's shop has a private men's entrance. Seriously? What is this the 1920s? I also found it vaguely insulting how much of the men's half was devoted to suits and what is clearly serious work wear, while the woman's side featuring girls looking, well, kinda flightly and frivolous. Where were the business women dressed smart in J Crew's quality clothing? Oh wait, that's right, the suits and serious stuff is for the men, you girls can have some cute colourful outfits to suit your silly personality. Hmmm..

Overall, I'm not impressed.

Will you be sporting emerald green this winter? Isoldehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10371909428792605472noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6097895079691785564.post-36859691527833337832013-10-15T21:44:00.003+01:002013-10-15T21:51:38.623+01:00Where to draw the line...I was watching a special episode of a TV show called Monomane Star Tanjou or ものまねスター誕生 (which roughly translates to 'birth of impression star' erm, or star who can do impression/imitation may be a better way of expressing that!), which is a show where people who can do some type of impersonation or imitation perform. They usually can sing in a style like a certain pop star, or can do voices like famous actors, or even imitate every day objects.

Seriously, there was a guy who did an imitation of a face cloth hanging out to dry.

Random doesn't even touch the surface!

Anyway, I really like this 'mane' type of show. Particularly for singing. Probably because I love karaoke so much, but back to the point.

There was a group of 5 young girls who were impersonating a Korean pop group that have had some success in Japan called Kara. In fact, they did a medley of Kara's songs and danced to it.

At first, I thought, 'ugh, Kara, but that's sweet that they have these girls who were ages 10-12 years old on the show'. Yeah, they were wearing typical pop star outfits, which I didn't find odd, but I did find part of their performance... well... inappropriate.

If you know anything about Kara, then you probably know their hit 'Mister', if you don't, well, here's a link to a video, but basically they do this dance which can only be described as the 'butt dance'. The girls just shake their bums in the camera. When I saw Kara doing this I was surprised, but I was kinda disturbed to see young girls imitating it. Sorry no pic of this, on purpose!

But then, the show's presenters came out and made it worse. So much worse.

Yep, he told the girls that it was sexy!

Seriously?!

Telling 10-12 year old girls it was sexy!

UGH.

Seriously gross and made me feel so horrible.

Caption: Wasn't it sexy!

This really made me sad. I know that sometimes things can get 'lost in translation', but I've never heard 'sexy' used in Japanese in any other sense than well, kinda, how we mean it in English. I get that the girls innocently imitate their favourite pop group, but to put it on TV and then call it sexy. That's just too far. Call it adorable, but just not sexy, ok? *sigh* Even better if the camera could have cut away and not shown them shaking their bottoms... but maybe that's just me? >_<

What do you think? Am I being too sensitive?

I was shopping online the other day (yeah, I know, when am I not?!) and I noticed that one of my customer reviews was quoted on the Banana Republic website!

How exciting!

Ok, yeah, I know that, like, that's the point of having the reviews on the site, but I still thought it was cool to see part of my review appear on the main page.

Plus, I have empathy for the employee who read through reviews and picks out key snippets for the site to highlight. It can be thankless work, but I appreciate it.

For those of you curious, I was raving about the Ashley ballet flats, which are amazing! I actually just got another pair - on sale for only £19.99 from the BR at Westfield in White City. Wonderful :)

Anyway, it was a nice surprise and put a smile on my face!

On that subject, I really do like how a lot of online retailers allow the customers to give feedback on the products. I really like to see what other people had to say about something before I buy it. Also, what better place to have that info than right there where you're already looking. The only downside I find, is that for some shops, where stock sells out quickly, you don't really get the chance to benefit from any reviews. By the time people buy and review the product, they've already sold out, so you can read about how wonderful something which isn't available in your size is. That's kinda frustrating.

What do you think?

Moon Crystal Power! Make up! indeed! :)

The brand is inspired by Sailor Moon - the princess of the Moon who is also a sailor solider (or bishoujo senshi) who fights to protect the happy times and the people she holds dear. This broach is for the girls who've grown into women to continue to look cute and sparkly while they fight for these ideals in our modern society.

Or something like that. :P

The compact or broach is designed in the style of Sailor Moon's crystal star broach which she uses to transform in the 2nd series of the anime, Sailor Moon R.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R - Miracle Romance Shining Room Powder is available for pre-order from the 12th June 2013 and will be released in November 2013 (tentative) for 3,980 yen.

Will you be ordering one? I'm so tempted, although I'm so broke at the moment, and I need more makeup like a hole in the head, but, but, but, it's Sailor Moon!Isoldehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10371909428792605472noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6097895079691785564.post-79829979272007926492013-06-01T12:16:00.000+01:002013-06-01T12:16:13.691+01:00Modern twist on traditional clothing: AngermaierToday I want to blog about this amazing line of clothing that I found on my travels in Munich a few years ago. I was reminded of them as I was tidying (aren't I always?) and came across a catalogue from Angermaier.

They make modern trachtenmoden, or traditional Bavarian clothing, such as dirndls and lederhosen. Trachtenmoden can still be worn for special occasions and most notably, at Oktoberfest.

I love Angermaier's updated take on this traditional look. They have some funkier pieces that include leopard print, neon colours, and even skull prints, as well as the more traditional gingham print patterns.

The website is in German, but it's not too difficult to navigate. Hint, if you want to see the women's collection - that's under Kollektionen - then Damen-Kollektion, or visit the Online Shop!

Here is just a small sampling of some of the ladies' dirndls they have to offer:
They have everything from the sexy and funky to the sweet and girly. I'm totally in love with this brand.

I did have the pleasure of visiting one of their stores while I was in Munich and I have to say I was so tempted by quite a few dirndls. From what I saw, all their pieces were of the utmost high quality and were very well made. I guess that helps to explain the price tags for these pieces, which run from €100 up to €1,000!

Oh yes, I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention they also sell lederhosen for the ladies as well as for the lads. Respect to any ladies who can pull this look off, but for me, the Bavarian summer hear in leather shorts is not my cup of tea! I'll keep to the loose fitting skirts to hide my big bottom, thanks! :)Isoldehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10371909428792605472noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6097895079691785564.post-64395489471438835182013-05-22T20:13:00.000+01:002013-05-22T20:13:16.998+01:00Feeling the sunshine with Lunasol's Summer 2013 release

Like seriously.

Here some shots of her for inspiration, and yes, quite a few are from New Girl. I love that show, don't you?

I love how Zoey dresses really feminine and girly. It's a style that I definitely go for when I get dressed. I only wish I had access to some of her clothes and budget! :)
To get this look yourself, pair a smart or frilly top with a feminine and girly bottom. I'd recommend a puffed out skirt with a bow-tie blouse, or better yet, a one-piece dress made for an hour glass (puffy or pleated full skirt with a fitted waist and top) paired with a colour-popping cardigan. Lovely! So this weekend the Eurovision Song Final was on. Sadly, I missed watching it live, so caught up thanks to modern technology. I love love love Eurovision. As a non-Euro native myself, I think it's awesome to compete nationally with cheesy pop songs. I can only dream of a world-wide-vision song contest one day...

Anyway, I thought I'd share my thoughts on some of the songs this year. They are of course only my opinions, and I'd love to hear what you think too! Did you watch this year?

In catching-up I have to say I didn't watch the entire show. So I missed out on the little snipets from Sweden between acts. These are usually pretty entertaining and I'm gutted I missed out on these. But catching up also meant I missed out on whatever hilarious voice over comments they aired in the UK. I don't even know if it was Graham Norton again this year, but as long as it wasn't Terry Wogan, I'd be fine with it. I know that most people loved Terry's commentary, but I found it kind of insulting and rude. Yeah, I know it's just a laugh, but I kinda would rather hear the songs and save the commentary for after the song. Just me, maybe :P

If you missed out on the songs, you can catch-up quickly with all the songs here on YouTube.
First the ones worth commenting on, then the pretty good (all lumped together), and then the wtf category.

Oh, nice one. Not a winner I think, but I'd listen to this.

Bulgaria

Really kinda weird, but I strangely like it. Not sure why, but it kinda gives me a Bollywood vibe... think it might be the pitch of the woman's voice.

Denmark

This one won this year, and I think it was a pretty good song. I really like it, but I don't think I'm in love with it or anything. Congrats!

Cascada! Woo hoo! I love her... erm or I used to. This kinda sounds like every other song she's done. Not surprised this didn't do so well.

Greece

Amazing! Upbeat and fun sounding. Not sure about the only English I heard 'Alcohol is free' (also the song title), but hey!

Ireland

This actually placed last! Dead last! Talk about playing favourites, guys. I liked this a lot. I'd dance to this in a club.

Montenegro

This didn't even make it to the finals, it looks like. I thought it was awesome! A weird mix of rap and pop power. Respect for trying something very different.

Russia

Dina Garipova was such an improvement on last year's Babushki group. I know they were kooky, but I just couldn't get behind it.

I shouldn't admit to liking this, but I honestly do. >_<

Other entries that I liked, but have nothing especially to say: Austria, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Estonia, Iceland, and Norway.

And lastly, a couple of WTF's go out to:

FYROM (Macedonia)

Conflicted on this one... maybe a WTF is too harsh. Just ... well weird.

Romania

What?!? O_o

United Kingdom

Bonnie Tyler? Sorry, but who? Don't think you're really trying. I mean, last year's bombing with Engelbert Humperdinck wasn't enough? Who thought it'd be a good idea to drag these old celebs out of the closet. By 'old celebs' I mean people no one under 30 has heard of and most people over 30 are embarrassed to admit they know who they are. Serious cringe. >_<

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Did you watch? What did you think?

Or at least it is for most of the world. To me, summer usually means swimsuits, BBQs, ice lollies, and sunshine. So, today's post is featuring swimwear in lovely shades of Emerald, Pantone's colour of 2013.
It's a lovely warm brown with goldish shimmer. Weirdly, in the bright sunlight it looks kinda dark mauvey purple colour.

I also had trouble with the lighting, so some shots are too dark, and some are too light. Sorry about that.
What colours are you painting your nails at the moment? Isoldehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10371909428792605472noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6097895079691785564.post-38710862840166501792013-04-30T21:20:00.000+01:002013-04-30T21:20:07.640+01:00Gouda Gouda Two Shoes I can paint my nails again! This was a looooong time coming for me. I finally painted my nails! The last time I painted my nails was back in November, just before I had a heinous finger infection that lead to a Spanish doctor (while on holiday, boo) cutting into my poor finger. Well, only 5 months later and my finger is almost back to normal! ¬_¬ So yes, I am very excited to bring this nail polish post today :)

This is OPI's Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, a mauve with coral shimmer from OPI's Holland collection. I bought this in a January sale and it's just been waiting for me to use it!

Sorry for the untidy paint job. I'm out of practice.

But seriously, this was a typical OPI nail polish. Wide brush applicator and the polish applied smoothly. This was a two coater for me with my usual OPI Nail Envy as a base and Seche Vite for a top coat.

The shimmer is subtle, and you can only really see it if you look up close, but it's what attracted me to this colour. It's a lovely and easy to wear shade for work tho. Isoldehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10371909428792605472noreply@blogger.com0
